Intro

Welcome to my website where I, Daan, give a bit of information about climbing, mountaineering and myself.

Just below you can see a beautifull picture of the Matterhorn, although the Matterhorn is not the highest mountain of the Swiss alps it is one of the most (in)famous mountains in the Swiss alps. The Matterhorn rises like a stone pyramid on the Swiss Italian border, its four ridges pointing neatly to the compass and its peak soaring to 4,478 meters. For a long time it was thought to be unclimbable however, it was first conquered in 1865 by Edward Whymper's team, a victory overshadowed by the tragic fall of four climbers on the descent. Since then, it has become both a symbol of mountaineering.

The matterhorn is by far one of my favourite mountains as it looks almost like a mountain you would find in a cartoon, mighty and imposing with a pointed top and steep slopes portraying for me impossibility of ever standing at the top.
